(Chengdu, 23 April 2010) The fourth Annual Summit of China Green Companies successfully concluded under the theme "Green Evolution: Governments and Enterprises". The summit, jointly hosted by China Entrepreneur Club (CEC) and Chengdu municipal government on April 22-23, centered upon building effective cooperation between enterprises and government, reaching consensus on green economy and inducing socioeconomic transformation aimed at sustainable development.

More than 600 important officers and representatives from politics, business, academia and NGOs, both domestic and abroad, attended this event, including Achim Steiner (UN Under-Secretary-General and UNEP Executive Director), Wang Zhongyu (President of China Enterprise Confederation), Liu Chuanzhi (President of Legend Holdings), Wu Jianmin (former Chinese Ambassador to France), Steven N.S. Cheung (prominent economist), Jack Ma (CEO of Alibaba Networking Technology Co.), Li Chuncheng (Secretary of CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee) and Ge Honglin (Mayor of Chengdu).

The concept of green companies as "achieving sustainable competitiveness through structuring socially and environmentally friendly networks" is highly consistent with Chengdu's vision to build a world-class modern garden city, according to Li Chuncheng, who delivered an opening address on April 23. He believes that the CGC Summit will enable the green concepts to prevail on a larger scale in Chengdu and help the city formulate and improve policies to facilitate low-carbon economy and development of green industries, and encourage more enterprises and consumers to take green actions. "Chengdu's endeavor to build a world-class modern garden city brings more opportunities for green companies to further explore their potential, which is mutually beneficial," he stressed.

China is fully capable of transforming its role from being one of the biggest polluters (or "black cat") into one of the most influential green giants (or "green cat"), asserted Liu Donghua, Executive Chairman of CEC and Chairman of China Entrepreneur Magazine in his remarks at the opening ceremony, and he stressed that outstanding entrepreneurs can lead this green evolution, of which the country is in urgent need. He also reminds the audience that, in the process of changing the "black cat" into a "green cat", development should not be sacrificed for the sake of the "green" concept, and our pursuit of innovation must be based on the context of the nation. Meanwhile, we need to facilitate the green transformation in a pragmatic way by creating a sound environment in terms of policy, laws and regulations, institutional arrangement and public opinions.

On the night of April 22nd, the 2010 Summit inaugurated an "Idea Feast" centered on green values after the opening reception. Ten distinguished guests who are leading entrepreneurs, scholars and NGO founders from China and abroad each took ten minutes to elaborate their unique but concise views on the "green values". The latest, most profound and representative ideas on sustainable development were thoroughly presented by these opinion leaders on the same stage, which is unprecedented in China.

Besides the plenary and parallel sessions, the summit released for the first time both the list of "China Green Companies Top 100" and the Report on China Green Companies Top 100 to encourage more companies to achieve sustainable competitiveness through structuring socially and environmentally friendly networks, and to call on more enterprises to lead the transformation of China's economy with green innovation.

Founded by China Entrepreneur Club on April 22, 2008 (Earth Day), the Annual Summit of China Green Companies is the first international cross-industry summit organized in China that focuses on sustainable development, and is now recognized as the largest, high-level international conference on green development in China. The summit is committed to become an idea feast of new business culture, a platform to share green values, and a green camp amassing and relaying the forces of sustainable development.
