Edward is known as ‘Mr. Broadband’ for his unremitting efforts in promoting broadband development in China. Recently, he has devoted himself to building Beijing Cloud Valley. As a pioneer in China’s cloud computing, he is widely known as ‘Mr. Cloud’.
Edward co-founded AsiaInfo in 1994 which is the first Chinese technology company listed on NASDAQ. After leaving AsiaInfo in June 1999, he joined the newly founded company China Netcom and served as President and CEO. In 2002, on the occasion of China’s telecommunications reform, Edward was appointed as CEO of the restructured China Netcom Group. Under his leadership, the group was successfully listed on NYSE and HKSE in November 2004, when he acted as the Vice Chairman and CEO.
After resigning from China Netcom Group in 2006, Edward founded China Broadband Capital Partners, L.P. (CBC), where he serves as Chairman today. CBC invests primarily in companies in such sectors as telecommunications, internet, media, science and technology.
Edward received a Master’s degree in Ecology from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1988 and a Ph.D. in Natural Resources Management from Texas Tech University in 1992.
